About this talk

GIS Day in LA County just wouldn’t be the same without some kind of treat to celebrate the event. While we typically all get to share that treat in person, we had to get creative in 2020 because we wouldn’t want to miss out on this annual tradition. Please join us in baking a GIS Day Cake from the comfort and safety of your own home! As an even bigger bonus, you don’t have to share this cake with hundreds of your closest friends.

A simple list of ingredients are provided below, so you can bake along with us. We also encourage everyone to get creative with decorating the cake and submitting your photos, so that we can vote on who TAKES THE CAKE for 2020!

CAKE: 1 cup sugar, ½ cup butter, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon salt, 1½ cups all-purpose flour, 1¾ teaspoons baking power, ¾ cup milk.

(Makes ONE 9 inch round cake – double for more cakes or 9x13 cake)

FROSTING: ½ cup unsalted butter (softened), 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons milk.
